iPhone 6 vs iPhone 5S – Does it Really Worth the Upgrade?

There has been a lot that changed between the processors of these two devices. The 5S is a great device and is very easy to hold, it’s a phone you pick it up and you know exactly what’s going on and what to do with it. It’s a phone that will take a long time to become obsolete because it still competes with devices like Samsung Galaxy S4. It’s a device that does everything that you need it to do. Apple has been always good at showing people that you need an upgrade without there being actually a lot of grades. But between the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 6 there’s actually so much that’s changed.

Probably the most important factor most people when deciding between these devices is price. For most people you would be looking at the $100 difference but with this extra $100 iPhone 6 brings a lot to the table, starting with a larger display. iPhone 6 has got a 4.7 inch display that is wider and taller than 4.0 inch iPhone 5S. Price difference between these two devices isn’t that much for a great upgrade.

These devices are very similar in design and with the iPhone 6 Apple just took the iPhone 5S, flatten it down and smoothed the edges whereas on the iPhone 5S, it has a block-type design which is very easy to grasp. The back of the iPhone 5S features glass and aluminium whereas on the iPhone 6 it’s one solid piece of aluminium.

The iPhone 6 being larger makes room for the larger display and a larger battery. The iPhone 6 is 10-15% larger than the iPhone 5S and has a beautiful display which is crispier and clear that iPhone 5S. Resolution has been opt in iPhone 6 but the pixel density is exactly the same in these two devices and both of these devices are pretty much unusable in direct sunlight. Like the older display these just do not absorb the direct light. But both the displays are great otherwise. Apple says it’s the best they have ever put into an iPhone. The colors are accurate and the aspect ratio is great and represents real life color better than ever.

iPhone 5S is a comfortable device as you can reach all the areas of the screen comfortably whereas in the iPhone 6 Apple has introduced the feature called reachability where you double tap the Touch ID sensor and it brings the screen down where you can use it with one hand. The iPhone 6 is a one handed device but you but just not as comfortable as iPhone 5S. You may be more afraid to hold the iPhone 6 as it is more slippery.

Talking about the performance, the iPhone 6 is 25% faster than the iPhone 5S. The new chip in the iPhone 6 is more of an evolutionary upgrade than revolutionary. It only ads 25% power and 50% increase in graphical power. That is impressive. But the iPhone 5S is no slow and it will do everything you want it to do seamlessly. So if you need a lot of power out of your device to power games, hardware intensive applications then the iPhone 6 is the clear winner here. But if you are using your device as a day-to-day phone then the iPhone 5S will do everything that the iPhone 6. The iPhone 6 uses OpenGL 1.2 which is better for gaming. The chip in the iPhone 6 is more efficient than the one in the iPhone 5S. But the iPhone 5S loads at least 5 seconds faster than the iPhone 6.

The battery in the iPhone 6 has improved by 10% to 15% over the iPhone 5S. The great feature about iPhone 6 is that if the battery fully dies it will boot up faster than about 2 times than the iPhone 5S.


The iPhone camera is the one area where Apple always keeps improving. The quality has always been great and with the iPhone 6 it’s so much better. Focus pixels have been added to the iPhone 6 which means your focus is going to be so much better and crisper and both of the LEDs are in a single unit. So it’s better in the 6. The slow motion is twice better than that of iPhone 5S.
