Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is actually a lot different from the iPhone 6 Plus in terms of hardware specification. Its way more powerful and there is a pretty big difference in specs between the Galaxy Note 4 and iPhone 6 Plus. However, specs are not the last word. Manufacturers may advertise higher processor power and higher megapixel camera but it’s the actual user experience that determines which phone you need over the other.
The first thing that matters is the build material. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is built of plastic with a leather feel at the back of it. While the iPhone 6 Plus is a solid chunk of aluminum having all the components in it which makes the design a very attractive one. The Display actually seamlessly curves into the design. So Apple has given both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus a smooth ending instead of the block design like the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
The iPhone 6 Plus is 1.4 mm thinner than the Galaxy Note 4. The Note 4 is a little bit bigger and weighs a bit more than iPhone 6 Plus so as to accommodate the extra 0.2 inches for its display. So the iPhone has a 5.5 inch IPS display whereas the Galaxy Note 4 has a 5.7 inch Super AMOLED display and the differences between these are huge. One is LCD technology while the other is Super AMOLED.
What’s the actual difference between these displays?
The Note 4 has a more realistic set of colors where the iPhone 6 plus has a regular LCD display and their resolutions are also different. Coming to the resolution, the iPhone 6 Plus seems to be a little bit of slack. The iPhone 6 Plus display has a 1080 x 1920 pixels with a resolution of 441 ppi pixel density where on the other hand the Galaxy Note 4 display has a 1440 x 2560 pixels with a resolution of 515 ppi pixel density. So the text and the photos definitely looks much sharper on the Note 4 than that on the iPhone 6 Plus. The Display material on the Note 4 is having the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 while the iphone 6 Plus do have a Shatter Proof glass with a oleophobic coating which is not as hard as the Gorilla Glass 3.
Processing Power differs a lot between these devices
The iPhone 6 Plus is housed with an Apple A8 64-bit Dual-core 1.4 GHz Cyclone processor with 1 GB of RAM. In terms of numbers it’s a little disappointing when we compare with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 which has a 2.7 GHz Quad-core processor with 3 GB of RAM which is simply outstanding. So the Note 4 is more than double the iPhone 6 Plus processor in terms of numbers. But actual usage of these devices has been reportedly confirmed that iPhone 6 Plus is as efficient as the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 as Apple has always been very good at optimizing their system to make use of lower specs and lower RAM but always exceeds the performance in real life performance. In the past most iPhones have had less processing power with less RAM than their competitors but they simply outperformed them in terms of stability. So, numbers doesn’t always seem to be the final words.
The iPhone 6 Plus comes in 3 different memory sizes – 16, 64 128 GB which you cannot change once you buy it. While the Galaxy Note 4 comes in memory size i.e. 32 GB where you can upgrade the memory up to 128 GB and the memory cards are lot cheaper too. So for the iPhone 6 Plus there is a $100 difference between every memory option and once you buy one you are stuck with the only memory option.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 definitely beats the iPhone 6 Plus in terms of battery. The Note 4 comes with a 3220 mAh battery where the iPhone 6 Plus comes with a 2915 mAh battery but it’s also worth mentioning the point that iPhone 6 Plus is too much optimized to consume less power than that of Note 4. So the power backup is almost the same on these two devices. But the only advantage with the Note 4 is that the battery can be changed by the user at any point of time and the user can also carry an extra battery if needed.
Both of these devices support 802.11 ac standards which is a faster and stronger Wi-Fi connection. Both of these devices have the LTE capability but the iPhone 6 Plus has three times more capability than the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 because they have support for 20 LTE bands whereas the Note 4 only has support for 6. This will not make a big difference if you are using the phone in one spot. However, if you are travelling the iPhone 6 Plus will be a better phone for that because you have a better chance of catching LTE service on different networks in different countries due to the extra support. For most people that will not be a factor in deciding between these two devices.
When it comes to camera the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has blown iPhone 6 Plus out of the water when it comes to numbers. On papers the specs look so much different but it the concept may vary in real life usage. The iPhone 6 Plus has a 8 megapixel camera with 3264 x 2448 pixels with an F2.4 aperture, dual tone flash with phase detection autofocus. It gives you the perfect picture in the dark by using the two sensors inside of it to mix up the color temperature. It also has focus pixels which is a feature found in the DSLR cameras which ensures a faster and sharper auto focus.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 camera is 16 megapixel one which is twice as much as iPhone 6 Plus but that that does not mean that you will definitely get a better picture but it means that you would get a bigger picture which is twice as big in terms of size versus the iPhone 6 Plus. Actual quality depends on the sensor. However the aperture is better on Note 4 i.e. 1.9 vs. 2.2 on the iPhone 6 Plus which means it will let in more light during dark conditions. So pictures taken at night by Galaxy Note 4 will have less noise than that taken by iPhone 6 Plus. These two devices have the optical image stabilization but the Galaxy Note 4 does not have Focus Pixels which is a technology excusive to the iPhone 6 Plus.
The Galaxy Note 4 records at 4K videos at 30 fps which is not available in iPhone 6 Plus. Apple may include this feature in the near future software updates. Slow-motion on Galaxy Note 4 at 720p is 120 fps and on iPhone 6 Plus is 240 fps. That’s one of the craziest things on iPhone 6 Plus. The Galaxy Note 4 is better prepared for selfies as it has a cool feature called 90 degrees selfie mode.
Multi-tasking and other features
When it comes to features, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 does have many that the iPhone 6 Plus does not. It has got the Touch Stylus which has been made more accurate on the Note 4. It is stuffed with extra features like UV sensor, Infrared remote, Multi-tasking UI, Extra Volume 2.0 which amplifies the volume and an ultra Power Saving mode which very useful when you are left with a little bit of power left in your device.
But for iPhone 6 Plus it’s all about simplicity. You know everything about it and it’s as simple as buying it and begin using. So there’s lot of differences which come out on real life usage and on-paper specs just fade away. Hope I have been able to explain the prime differences between these devices in terms of specifications.
