Sony Xperia Z3: A smartphone with High-end Specs

Six months ago Sony announced its flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z2 and bang on time we have the new Xperia Z3. With such a small span Sony has proven that if your phone is six months old it is old. Sony did not do too well with its Z2 two months back but this new smartphone Z3, although it’s not a huge upgrade but it is slightly different from the Z2. But how much of improvement does the Z3 have over Z2? Let’s find out.

Talking about the design, the frame which between the two parts of the glass, is curved and feels much better than the Z2. We have the same 5.2 inch full HD display which is much brighter and almost looks like an Amoled display. The edges are now more curved and subtle. Even the flaps covering the ports and slots blend very well with the edges and the body. The button placements are exactly the same as what we have seen on the Z2. It has a glass panel at back with a 20.7 MP camera with an LED flash.

This phone has the most amazing and outstanding feature and that is waterproof and dustproof. Coming to the software, the Xperia Z3 runs on an Android OS, v4.4.4 (KitKat), which is the latest version and the build is slightly different so the UI looks slightly refreshed from what we have seen on the Xperia Z2 and Z1. It’s good news for the prospective buyers and Xperia loyal customers that the new Z3 has introduced few new themes, widgets and also few new wall papers to give a new look to it.

The updated UI is definitely smoother and is much more stable than the older UI. You also be having all the patented Sony apps and also a Play Station app which lets you play PS4 games on your smartphone. The device runs on a Quad-core 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 801 processor along with a 3GB of RAM and an Adreno 330 GPU. So it’s a high-end hardware on the smartphone which makes playing high-end games a piece of cake for it.  The apps do not crash at all and if you are watching full HD movies it’s actually very sharp. So for the hardware package, it’s actually excellent.

So Xperia Z3, though not a game changer, but it does score pretty good and at par with the flagship smartphones available in the market.

It has got a 3100 mAh battery which supports the device to run for about one and a half day of normal usage. The audio and the video experience on the smartphone are quite good. Sony is always good at camera and it has got a 20.7 MP along with several other features. Sony claims to have ISO boost of about 12800 which is a lot on a smartphone. The Camera app has come up with a lot of improvements in terms of fast focusing and quick startup and feels much more responsive. There are few more modes as well. The camera does warn you as it can heat up when you are recording extensive 4K videos. The pictures taken by Xperia Z3 are pretty sharp and offer a pretty decent depth and the colors are good with a slight improvement in low light as well.

  • Great battery life
  • Waterproof and dustproof
  • Excellent camera with 4K recording

  • Glossy design makes it slippery
